• Plea deal reached in case of Iowa City woman accused of assaulting her son with a fan (1630kcjj.com) — An Iowa City woman has reached a plea deal after being accused of assaulting her son with a broken fan and damaging property during separate August incidents. The domestic abuse charge was replaced with 1st Degree Attempted Burglary, and a sentencing hearing is set for November 30, which local residents may see reflected in upcoming court dockets.
   

• Governor signs bill providing $1.36 billion to steel mill (kiwaradio.com) — Iowa lawmakers have approved a massive tax incentive package, up to about $1.4 billion, to support a proposed steel mill, sparking debate over corporate giveaways and state finances.
