City High Science Teacher Received 'Teacher of the Year' Award

City High science teacher Matt Stier has received an Excellence in Science Teaching Award for 2013, honored as the science "teacher of the year."

IOWA CITY -- City High science teacher Matt Stier has received an Excellence in Science Teaching Award for 2013, honored as the science “teacher of the year.”  The honor is given by the Iowa Academy of Science (IAS), a non-profit group that promotes scientific research, education, public understanding of science, and recognition of excellence in those areas.

Awards are given in six categories. Stier was recognized for general / multiple sciences. He teaches biology and Foundations of Science III, which incorporates physical, earth and space content topics. He is he is the 10th City High science teacher to receive this honor.

 “I am honored to be recognized along with the science educators who have received this award in the past, and to work every day with the top-notch science teachers that make up the City High science department,” Stier said.

 The award was presented Saturday at the annual IAS meeting at Simpson College, Indianola, IA.
