City Of Iowa City Hiring For An Hourly Student Graphic Design & Equity Intern

The Office of Equity & Human Rights is hiring an hourly student graphic design and equity intern. The tentative duration is from August through December 2021. Variable daytime hours up to 25 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. The wage is $15 per hour.

Job summary:

Under direct supervision, this position includes creating posters, pamphlets, and incorporating visuals through photography and graphic design, assisting in the content for a monthly newsletter on equity and social justice, creating posts for the Equity Office’s Instagram page, and working alongside staff on a variety of equity and social justice-related projects, including tasks associated with the outreach and educational efforts of the Human Rights Commission and the Ad Hoc Truth and Reconciliation Commission. Clerical duties as assigned. Conducts self in a manner that promotes and supports inclusivity in the workplace and community. Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications:

Candidates considered must be attending an educational institution accredited by DOE recognized accreditation body. Candidates considered will need strong knowledge in Photoshop/Illustrator, have excellent creativity, excellent communication abilities including written, good coordinating skills, the ability to multi-task, and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Coursework or experience in graphic design or photography, social media, and context of the historical foundations of racial injustice and discrimination in one or more of the following areas: journalism, communications, graphic design, marketing, history, or a related field. Ability to work independently and meet deadlines. Must pass a criminal background check (required due to confidential office information).
