City of Iowa City Releases Labor Day Schedule

Closings of city offices and services for Labor Day

Here is the city schedule for Iowa City for the Labor Day Weekend.

City Hall, the Animal Care and Adoption Center, the Landfill and Recycling Center, Public Library, and Senior Center will be closed on Monday, September 5, 2011 for the Labor Day holiday. Normal operations will resume on Tuesday, September 6. 

Other changes to City services that will occur on Labor Day:

  • Public parking ramps will be open, but parking fees will not be charged at ramps or meters. City buses will not be in operation.
  • Offices will be closed, but both recreation centers will be open on Labor Day. Hours will be 1 to 8 p.m. for the Robert A. Lee Recreation Center, and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. for Mercer Park / Scanlon Gym. Pools at Mercer Park and City Park will open at 1 p.m. The pool at the Robert A. Lee Recreation Center is currently closed for cleaning and maintenance. 
  • Administrative and records offices will be closed, but the rest of the Police Department will be open for business.
  • Since the Senior Center will be closed, senior meals will not be served or delivered.
  • Crews will not pick up garbage, recycling, or yard waste on Labor Day. Residents whose garbage day is Monday should place their materials at the curb by 7 a.m. the following day, on Tuesday, September 6.
  • The Water Division office will be closed on Monday, but a 24-hour emergency line and on-call staff will be available. Residents who have a water emergency should call 319.356.5166 for assistance.
