City of Iowa City Releases Veterans Day Schedule

Some city services will be affected by the holiday. Read on to find out more.

City of Iowa City administrative offices at City Hall will be closed on Friday, November 11, 2011 for Veterans Day. The Animal Care and Adoption Center, Landfill and Recycling Center, and Senior Center will also be closed.

Other departmental schedules or announcements for Veterans Day are as follows:

LANDFILL: The Landfill and Recycling Center will be closed on Friday, but will resume normal hours on Saturday, November 12.

LIBRARY: The Iowa City Public Library will close two hours earlier than normal. Hours will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

PARKING AND TRANSIT: Normal operations are scheduled for Veterans Day.

PARKS AND RECREATION: The Recreation Center, Scanlon Gym, and pools will be open regular hours, but registration offices in both facilities will be closed.

POLICE: Patrol personnel and station masters will be on duty.

SENIOR CENTER: Since the Senior Center will be closed, senior meals will not be served or delivered on Veterans Day.

SOLID WASTE: Refuse, recycling, and yard waste will not be collected on Friday. Residents on the Friday route should place materials at the curb by 7 a.m. on Monday, November 14, although the City cannot determine exactly what time the items will be collected.

WATER: The Water Division office will be closed on Friday, but a 24-hour emergency line and on-call staff will be available. Residents who have a water emergency should call 319.356.5166 for assistance.

City offices and operations will return to normal schedules on Monday, November 14.
