City To Host Public Input Meeting For ADA Renovations And Improvements At City Park Pool

The City of Iowa City is hosting a public input meeting on proposed ADA renovations and improvements at the City Park Pool, 200 W. Park Road. The meeting will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5 in the Social Hall of the Robert A. Lee Recreation Center, 220 S. Gilbert Street. Neumann Monson Architects will present proposed concepts, along with Parks and Recreation Superintendent Chad Dyson, who will be available to answer questions and provide details regarding the scope of the project. City Park Pool will be open for the public to view the facilities from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4.

The City is seeking the public's input to assist in design plans for three specific areas in need of renovation. These areas are: the existing wading pool, expansion of the existing fence line, and the addition of a picnic table area. This renovation project does not include plans for changes to the current swimming pool.

The wading pool is not ADA compliant and will be removed and replaced with an alternative water feature to meet the needs of the toddler age group. Expansion of the fence line is planned to accommodate an expanded sunbathing area and to reduce the crowding of patrons on the deck. A picnic table area will enhance the facility by providing a comfortable place for patrons to enjoy refreshments while in close proximity to the pool.

The deadline for public input is 5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9. Comments may be made at the public input meeting, or by visiting the City's website at www.icgov.org/citypoolreno and following the instructions found there. Additional details regarding the renovation and improvement project can also be found on the website.

For more information, please contact Parks and Recreation Superintendent Chad Dyson at 319-356-5102 or email chad-dyson@iowa-city.org.
