Construction to Affect Traffic, Bus Routes on Washington Street

If you're used to driving down Washington Street, it might be good to start rethinking for your route.

If you haven't heard already, a two block section of downtown Washington Street spanning from Clinton Street to Linn Street is going to be converted from a one-way to a two-way street.

This after this section has been a one-way street for 36 years, according to the Gazette.

Now contruction is set sometime toward the end of the week, or more accurately between the dates of March 9 and March 12, and that means there will be some delays for those driving on Washington Street.

But besides that, there are will be some another delay on Washinton Street  this week.

Due to an unrelated construction project in the area, if weather permits it, the city plans to close a lane on Washington Street from Gilbert Street to Linn Street on Thursday.

From the city release:

This road closure is necessary to allow for the placement of crane to facilitate the delivery of construction materials to a building under construction in the area. It is anticipated that Washington Street will reopen to normal traffic on by the end of the day on March 8th.

Then, several bus routes will be detoured on March 12 as a section of Washington Street from Clinton to Gilbert will be closed for construction.

Several eastbound bus routes will detour due to the closure of Washington Street between Clinton Street and Gilbert Street for road work scheduled to begin on Monday, March 12th. The affected bus routes are the outbound Court Hill, outbound Towncrest, outbound Night & Weekend Towncrest and the outbound 7th Avenue. These routes will detour using Clinton Street to Burlington Street instead of traveling eastbound on Washington Street. The inbound trips of these bus routes will not be affected. The bus stops located at Washington Street and Linn Street (#7200) and at Washington Street and Gilbert Street (#7201) will not be serviced while during the project. Normal service will resume upon the completion of the work.
