Curtis Fry Given Work Release

Just three years after murdering Iowa City resident Patrick McEwen, 24-year-old Curtis Fry was granted work release from the Iowa State Parole board today.

The Press-Citizen reports that Curtis Fry, the 24-year-old from Wilton who was convicted for killing Patrick McEwen of Iowa City in 2008, is now mostly a free man. Fry received a work release ruling from the Iowa Parole Board in Des Moines today.

In testimony to the board, it was emphasized that Fry needs to make the most of this second chance.

DES MOINES – If Patrick McEwen had survived the Feb. 7, 2008, attack at the hands of Curis Fry, McEwen might have forgiven him, Rabbi Jeff Portman said today at Fry's parole hearing.

“He would have forgiven you, only if he and we were convinced you meant it,” Portman said of McEwen and his Agudas Achim congregation, of which McEwen was a member. “But, alas, Patrick is not alive. We cannot forgive you on his behalf. Only God can know what is in your heart truly.”
