Iowa DPS: One Person Killed, Another Hospitalized by Undercover Officers in Iowa City Trailer Court Shooting

One person is confirmed killed after an undercover narcotics operation resulted in an officer-involved shooting.

One person was killed and another injured after an officer-involved shooting at the Breckinridge Estates Trailer Court in Johnson County last night.

According to a press release from the Iowa Department of Public Safety, two state agents with the Division of Narcotics Enforcement (DNE) who are assigned to the Johnson County Drug Task Force were conducting an undercover investigation at Trailer 7C at the Iowa City area Trailer Court at approximately 7 p.m. Thursday evening.

After an altercation between the unidentified occupants of the trailer and the officers, shots were fired killing one person and sending another for treatment at a hospital. The two agents were uninjured in the incident according to the release.

KCRG reported this from the scene of the incident:

Officials have confirmed one person is dead at 4494 Taft Ave. SE, in the Breckenridge Estates. Officials have also said one officer was "involved" in the shooting, though it is unclear how. Witnesses told KCRG-TV9 the person's body has been laying uncovered on the ground at the scene of the shooting for roughly three hours.

Names of the suspects and the officers are being withheld pending family notification and further investigation.

According to the releasee, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, and the Johnson County Attorney are actively investigating the officer involved shooting.  Also assisting are the Iowa City Police Department, University Heights Police Department, University of Iowa Police Department, Coralville Police Department, Iowa State Patrol, and Johnson County Ambulance.
