A hazardous waste recycling/disposal event will be held from 8:00-11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 27th, 2015, at the City of Iowa City’s Eastside Recycling Center at 2401 East Scott Boulevard.
Bring your button batteries (those silvery little batteries that go into weighing machines and other appliances). Don’t bring used AA, AAA, C, D, or other relatively small household batteries because the Iowa City landfill no longer recycles those. Just throw them in the garbage. It’s unfortunate, because there’s metal in them, but it costs the city too much to recycle them, according to Jennifer (“Jen”) Jordan, the city’s recycling coordinator.

Bring garden chemicals, oil-based paint mixed with kitty litter so it’s clumpy, not a liquid (but not latex paint!), fingernail polish and fingernail polish remover, and other hazardous wastes listed on the city’s icgov.org/esrc website.
The cost is free to residents. Businesses have to pay.
