HR Green Working with Coralville, Iowa on Flood Mitigation System

HR Green has been selected by the city of Coralville, Iowa to complete flood control measures in the wake of the June 2008 Iowa River flood.

HR Green is pleased to announce its continuing relationship with the city of Coralville, Iowa to complete flood control measures in the wake of the devastating June 2008 Iowa River flood. HR Green has been selected to complete design, construction administration, and resident engineering services for the city’s next phase of the flood mitigation system.

“We are honored that Coralville has entrusted us with this vital infrastructure project,” said Project Manager Teresa Stadelmann. “Once completed, this work will greatly reduce the risk to the City from future flooding events.”

Following flooding that inundated large portions of the City, HR Green was tasked with developing recommendations for achieving flood protection to the 2008 flood high water elevation plus one foot of freeboard. This culminated in a report titled Storm Sewer System Mitigation Study completed November 2008. The City has already completed many of the recommended flood protection measures and has now secured funding to complete the Clear Creek South Floodwall – Phase 2 project.

This phase of the project, located along the south bank of Clear Creek between Highway 6 and 1st Avenue, includes the following items:

  • Permanent and removable flood walls from Highway 6 to 1st Avenue
  • Redirection of storm sewers behind the floodwall to Pump Station 10
  • Replacement of the sanitary sewer crossing below Clear Creek near 1st Avenue
