I Can See Senator Kamala Harris Eating Trump's Lunch in a Debate

Senator Kamala Harris ate Joe Biden's lunch in the 2nd Dem debate. I can also see her eating Donald Trump's lunch in a debate.

Senator Kamala Harris calmly and deliberately cross-examined Brett Kavanaugh in the Senate Judiciary Committee's hearing to elevate or not elevate him to the U.S. Supreme Court. I was impressed with her performance and that of Senator Amy Klobuchar, who also remained calm and asked intelligent questions of Kavanaugh, whose responses were nothing less than outrageous and revealed a remarkably defensive and nonjudicial temperament. But the fix was in. Republicans on the committee, especially the chair, Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA), made sure Kavanaugh was cleared to move to a vote on the Senate floor.

Similarly, Kamala Harris calmly but emotionally took apart Joe Biden's stance against federal bussing during his long career as a senator (D-DE) who worked with segregationists to accomplish common goals. She said she was a little girl who was part of the second class to integrate a school in Berkeley, CA. She was bussed there every school day. She argued that federal bussing orders were necessary to counteract racist states who were unlikely to integrate public schools. Joe Biden said Kamala integrated a Berkeley school because her state or city council allowed bussing.

What if they hadn't? Then a federal law would have been required to integrate Berkeley schools.

The more I see Harris in action, the more I see her as possibly the most effective Democratic candidate to take Donald Trump apart in a debate. I can't see Trump stalking Sen. Harris on the debate stage as he did with Hillary Clinton. Harris would turn around and confront him and ask him a question that would embarrass him. I don't know what the question would be, but she'd think of a good one. She's quick on her feet.

Bill de Blasio, who MSNBC anchor Brian Williams described as being "eight feet tall," could effectively loom over Donald Trump, who loomed over Hillary Clinton in 2016 as he stalked her around the debate stage. But this presidential contest isn't just about height and gender -- at least I hope not. Besides, Bill de Blasio appears to have annoyed non-New Yorkers. As a former New Yorker, he didn't annoy me at all.

I've gone back and forth between Elizabeth Warren (first) and Kamala Harris (second). In terms of who should debate Donald Trump, I think Sen. Harris might be the more effective candidate. If she doesn't become the presidential nominee, she most certainly should be nominated as U.S. Attorney General. Unlike William Barr, the current, ethically compromised AG who is not the attorney for Americans that he should be but instead has made himself Pres. Trump's personal attorney who represents Trump's interests, I am certain that Sen. Harris is incorruptible. She would represent the people's interests and would serve with integrity.

The hateful attacks on her by people with the moral fiber of Donald Trump Jr., who implied via a published and then deleted tweet that she isn't black enough prove the truthfulness of Mahatma Gandhi's proverb: "First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win."

As the Rev. Al Sharpton observed on MSNBC, "When slave ships were dropping off slaves, it shouldn't matter whether the slaves were dropped off in Charleston or Jamaica" [paraphrased].

Sen. Kamala Harris' (D-CA) father is from Jamaica and her mother is from India. They produced at least one brilliant, accomplished daughter who represents the melting pot of America. That's not just black enough but American enough.
