Iowa City Man Accused of Stealing More than $1,000 in Gas on Big Ten Rental Card

The offense allegedly took place from February through November last year.


An Iowa City man allegedly used his employee fuel charge card to fill up his personal vehicle with more than $1,000 worth of gas in 2011, according to an Iowa City Police criminal complaint.

Police say Abram Daniel Frein, 23, of Iowa City was an employee of who had access to their fuel charge cards. According to the criminal complaint, there is video and other documentation that shows Frein allegedly using the card 25 times for unauthorized fuel charges, allegedly filling up his own vehicle. The officer wrote in the complaint "it also appears he was fuelling up friends' vehicles" with the card.

According to police, the total amount charged on the card from February until November, 2011 was $1,137.52.

Frein is now facing a charge of second-degree theft, a class D felony.
