An Iowa City man was arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including a felony weapons charge, after police responded early in the morning Sunday to a shots fired report.
According to an Iowa City Police press release, yesterday at approximately 3:30 a.m., Iowa City Police responded to the 2000 block of Davis Street after receiving numerous 911 calls reporting shots fired in the area, as well as reports of a large number of people running around the area.

Witnesses at the scene identified Samuel Lee Lockett III, 24, of Iowa City as the shooter. Lockett was later located at 7:30 a.m. by officers on Coneflower Court in Iowa City and taken into custody after a brief foot chase during which Lockett submerged himself in a creek, according to the release.
According to Iowa City Police criminal complaints, police had been told that Lockett had a gun in his waistband. When officers approached Lockett at Coneflower Court, he allegedly shied away from them, searching for a way to escape, and then bolted for the creek. Police say Lockett fled to the back yard and submerged himself into the creek up to his head, and stayed submerged for several minutes, then attempted to flee from police with his pants around his knees.
