The man reportedly got into a dispute with police early Sunday morning.

Iowa City police say they were forced to use a Taser on an Iowa City man who was resisting arrest Sunday morning.
According to Iowa City police criminal complaints, police accused Tarrence Newman, 35, of Iowa City of first-degree harassment, interference with official acts, and assault causing injury to a peace office (all misdemeanors) for an incident that occurred at 3:16 a.m. Sunday morning.

At this point, the officers attempted to arrest Newman, who then "became defiant" according to the complaint. He allegedly struggled against them, threatened several times that he was going to kill the officers, and tensing up and refusing to put his hands behind his back. Police say then Newman was in a scuffle with the officers, kneeing one officer in the leg and causing scrapes to another officer's arm. Newman at that point was subdued through the use of a Taser, according to the complaint.
