Iowa City Police: Man Robbed Convenience Store with Knife, Held Cashier in Choke Hold

The Iowa City Police are looking for a man who reportedly robbed the Creekside Market convenience store last night.

 

A man who reportedly robbed the convenience store at knife point last night remains at large, according to the Iowa City Police Department.

Police say they responded at 11:02 p.m. to the convenience store, 2601 Highway 6 E, for the report of an armed robbery. According to the female cashier, a black man had entered the store, jumped over the counter and held her in a choke hold from behind, pressing a knife to her neck and demanding that she give him the money from the register. She complied with his demand and he fled in an unknown direction with the money, according to the release.

The woman received minor injuries and was treated at the store by paramedics.

The suspect is described as a black man, roughly five foot, ten inches in height and weighing 180 pounds. The woman said at the time of crime he had been wearing a light-colored plaid jacket with a blue shirt or mask covering his face.

Iowa City Area CrimeStoppers is offering up to a $1000 cash reward for information leading to the arrest of this suspect.
