Iowa City Police: Man Tasered After He Allegedly Resisted Arrest
Police say the Iowa City man, arrested Thursday morning, was charged with a felony for his third OWI arrest.

Iowa City police officers reported using a Taser on an Iowa City man who they say became combative following a Thursday morning traffic stop.
According to police criminal complaints, Leon Kurt Shivers, 41, of 60 Regal Ln., Iowa City was stopped by police near his home due to an inoperational break light at 1:22 a.m. this morning.
The officer wrote in the report that Shivers was ordered to stay in his vehicle, but allegedly he did not comply, instead getting out of the car and attempting to enter his home. The officer noted that Shivers allegedly appeared intoxicated.

At this point, the officer wrote that Shivers was ordered multiple times to back away from the door, which led to Shivers allegedly arguing with the officer. Shivers then allegedly began to push and pull away from the officer's grasp, with the altercation then going to the ground where the officer used a Taser to subdue Shivers.
Shivers now faces charges of assault on a peace officer, driving with a revoked license, and third offense operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated (OWI). The third OWI charge is a felony, as Shivers was previously convicted of OWIs on April 19, 2010 and Nov. 19, 2011. He also received charges last February when his car allegedly .
