Iowa City Police: Woman Reports Purse Grabbing Near College Green Park

The woman's purse was reportedly stolen just after midnight this morning.


The Iowa City Police are looking for information on a man that reportedly stole a woman's purse near Saturday morning

According to a police press release, at 12:21 a.m., Iowa City officers were flagged down by two men who were reporting that their female friend had just been robbed.

The woman told the officer that she was walking in the 200 block of South Johnson Street when a African American male had approached her and asked if she had any money, according to the release. When she said she did not, the man snatched her purse away and ran toward the downtown.

The woman described the man as a dark-complexioned African American man of average height and weight, between 18 to 20 years in age. She said he had been wearing a red shirt, black ball cap, and dark pants.

Iowa City Area CrimeStoppers is offering up to a $1000 cash reward for information leading to the arrest of this robbery suspect. Anyone with information about this crime is urged to contact CrimeStoppers at 358-TIPS (8477). Callers may remain anonymous and their identity does not need to be revealed to collect the reward.
