Iowa City's 2008 Second Pick — Hillary Clinton — Leading 2016 Iowa Caucus pack

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Vice President Joe Biden lead the Democrats, while Mike Huckabee and Rick Santorum lead the GOP for the 2016 Iowa Caucuses.

Pollsters are already looking ahead to the 2016 Iowa Caucuses and it looks like some familiar names could see success.

A new report from Public Policy Polling has Hillary Clinton leading the pack among Democrats. Clinton — a former first lady and current secretary of state — ran for the Democratic nomination in 2008, when she placed second in Johnson County with 20 percent.

Assuming there's no incument Republican president in 2016, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum are leading the GOP pack. Huckabee won Iowa in 2008, but placed second in Johnson County with 22 percent. Santorum won the 2012 caucuses, but his support was lower in Johnson County as well, with 15 percent in third place.

Other big names in the 2016 poll are Democrats Joe Biden and Russ Feingold, as well as Republicans Chris Chrisite, Sarah Palin, and Rand Paul.

The authors of the study admit it's too early to say much about the 2016 race: "Does 2016 Iowa polling right now matter? Not really. Is it interesting? It is to us and will be a good starting point for measuring how things move over time."
