Iowa City Woman Allegedly Attempts to Drive While More than Three Times Over Legal Intoxication Limit: Iowa City Police Blotter, Feb. 3

An Iowa City woman was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated after her erratic driving led police being called to the scene.

Tammy Rae Barton, 43, of 509 Church St., Iowa City, was charged with first-offense operating while intoxicated, a serious misdemeanor after police were called to the scene at Hy-Vee at the 1200 BLOCK of N. Dodge St.

According to the criminal complaint, witnesses said Barton had been driving erratically, hitting several curbs. She later reportedly collapsed for an unknown reason, and someone took her keys away so she could not drive, according to the complaint.

Police who spoke with Barton said she denied medical attention and that they smelled a strong odor of alcohol from her. When she was tested for blood-alcohol content, she registered a .312, almost four times the legal limit of intoxication
