The Tuesday, June 10, 2014 Iowa City Community School District board meeting should provide a little something for everyone. The district consent agenda includes $1.8 million dollars to be approved for contracts and agreements. One of the items awaiting approval is a $30,000 monument sign to identify West High as West High. The current sign is obscured by weeds.
This expense is being considered at a time when we are cutting curriculum, laying off 35 teachers, and increasing class size. Also, we are buying more materials from a Des Moines-based fertilizer company, and we’ll have spent $10,000 to repair a gate at Borlaug, which is only a couple of years old.
During the board meeting, there will be talk of the Blue Zone, Appendage 9 approvals, attendance zone area development, and the 2015 budget, along with many committee reports.
