REPLAY: Liveblogging the Iowa City School Board facilities committee meeting
A 4:00 meeting means not everyone can attend. That means Iowa City Patch to the rescue.

The meeting is over. Here is a summary of the meeting for those who don't want to go through all of my notes:
The Iowa City board members in attendance asked the administration to present them with options for Hills Elementary-- whether that will mean closing the school down or moving other students in to make it viable or other options-- by the end of July. Depending on whether the school board has two meetings in July or not, this could mean the board would see these recommendations either in late July or more likely the first meeting in August.
There will be a new energy conservation committee formed to look at ways to save the district money on energy costs.

Superintendent Steve Murley recommended putting up Roosevelt Elementary School for sale once it is closed as a school building. He also noted that the community has expressed it's disdain for the building being turned into a strip mall or more student housing, but there is only so much they can do as a district to discourage that.
Murley said he would not recommend magnet schools based on current enrollment numbers, and said if a magnet school was in the district it should almost certainly be centrally located geographically (ruling out Hills or North Liberty)

Board member Sarah Swisher was the only board member not in attendance. About 20-25 people were in attendance in the crowd.
