Lolo Jones' dream of winning a gold medal in this year's Olympics games may still be alive after this afternoon's performance in the semifinals of the 100-meter hurdles.

If she qualifies with her time of 12.71 in the semifinals heat, the Des Moines native will be scheduled to run in the finals of the 100-meter hurdles at 3 p.m. today. NBC will be showing the races tonight during its 7 p.m. broadcast. Whether or not she makes it will depend on the times of the final heat.

Jones finished third in her challenging semifinal heat taken easily by Sally Pearson of Australia (the overall favorite) at 12:39 and Jessica Zelinka of Canada.

Jones was trying to redeem herself after a tripped hurdle robbed her of gold in the 2008 Olympics.

Jones, 30, won her heat yesterday in the 100-meter hurdles at roughly 4 a.m. Iowa time this morning. Jones finished with 12.68 seconds, just a little behind the fastest time of 12.57 pace set by world champion Sally Pearson in another heat.

The Christian Science Monitor has a nice preview of some of the other favorites in the 100-meter hurdles, one of the top events of the day.
