Man Allegedly Found Asleep at the Wheel in McDonald's Drive-Through, Charged with OWI: Iowa City Police Blotter, June 1

An Iowa City man was charged with second-offense operating while intoxicated after he was allegedly found asleep at the wheel at the drive-through lane at the near the Sycamore Mall.
According to a criminal complaint, Bernard William Daly, 31, of Iowa City was sitting in his vehicle at the above location when McDonald's employees, curious as to why they could not get him to respond with an order, went out to find him asleep at the wheel. The employees then reportedly tried to wake Daly, startling him, causing him to drive forward over bushes on a nearby curb. Officers arriving at the scene reported seeing Daly walking away from his vehicle near where it had ramped the curb.
Police say in the complaint that Daly denied driving the vehicle, then admitted to it, then denied it again. According to the complaint, officers reported that Daly smelled strongly of alcohol, had slurred speech, and red bloodshot, watery eyes. Daly refused to take an alcohol breath and datamaster tests, although he did show signs of impairment while doing sobriety tests, according to police.
