Man Arrested for Transporting Drugs on Bus from Chicago to Iowa City Receives 3.5 Year Sentence

A man accused of attempting to bring drugs from Chicago to Iowa City was found guilty and sentenced today to more than three years in prison.


A Chicago man en route to Iowa City with drugs who was arrest January was sentenced today in Iowa southern district federal court to more than three years in prison.

According to press release from the office Nicholas Klinefeldt, this district's United States Attorney, Javon Terrell Daniels, 19, of Chicago was traveling via bus from Chicago to Iowa City on January 4, 2012. During a stop at the bus terminal in downtown Davenport, the bus driver reported smelling marijuana in the baggage area.

After a check of the luggage by a police dog, police found marijuana, cocaine, and crack cocaine in luggage Daniels' luggage.  Further investigation revealed that Daniels was transporting drugs from Chicago to Iowa City on behalf of Chicago drug traffickers.

Daniels was charged and found guilty of possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute and has been sentenced to 40 months of incarceration, with a following four years of supervised release.

The case was investigated by the Davenport Police Department, the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, and the United States Drug Enforcement Administration The case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa, according to the release.
