Nonprofit Director Fired for Allegedly Letting Couple Take Sexual Photos With His Work Phone

Scott Gill of Iowa City was let go from his job as executive director of Access 2 Independence last fall.

An Iowa City nonprofit director was fired last fall from his organization that helps the disabled after admitting he used his work phone to photograph the sexual activities of a female volunteer and her boyfriend, the Des Moines Register reports.

Scott Gill, 44, of Iowa City was fired in October from his position as executive director of Access 2 Independence of the Eastern Iowa Corridor, the newspaper said.

At a public hearing dealing with Gill’s request for unemployment benefits — which a judge rejected this month — Gill admitted sending or receiving more than 11,000 personal text messages, plus 700 to 800 photos, over the course of one month through his work phone.

At his public unemployment benefits hearing, Gill testified that on more than one occasion he let a volunteer and her boyfriend use his work phone to photograph their sexual activities inside his office while he was there.

“It was a poor choice on my part,” he testified. “I gave her the phone to use on a couple of different occasions.”
