Charlie was  born September 23, 1930 in Titus (Washington County), Iowa, the son of Frank and Anna (Frakes) Pratt. Charlie met and married Shirley Burris on September 10, 1953 in Riverside, Iowa. The couple moved to Iowa City shortly thereafter where Charlie worked as a maintenance man at the Iowa City Airport. He also was a trained pilot and flew for Iowa City Flying Service. Charlie was a carpenter and first worked for Poots and Freed Construction — and later, for more than 25 years, was with Frantz Construction — retiring in 1993. In September of this year, Charlie and his wife Shirley would have celebrated their 61st year of marriage.

Charlie is survived by his wife Shirley of Iowa City; son, William (Melissa) Pratt of Iowa City; brother, Joe (Alberta) Pratt of Marshalltown; sisters, Nancy Anderson of Brighton and Frances (Gene) Rees of Columbus Junction; a granddaughter, Bergen of Harper; sister-in-law, Kathryn Pratt of Agency, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ted.
