
Jacquelyn Jarmuth Phillips, 96, of Iowa City, Iowa passed away peacefully on January 14th.
She was born August 25, 1917 in Seattle, Washington.
Jackie was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers John Albert "Jack" and William "Bill" Adolph Jarmuth, her husband of 53 years, William Wirt Phillips, and their son, Charles Edward Phillips.
She is survived by her sister, Barbara Jarmuth Campbell of Iowa City; her son, William J. Phillips and his wife Lisa of Salisbury, Maryland; her grandchildren, Rachael Phillips Tillis (Jacksonville, Florida), Abbey Phillips (Calabash, North Carolina), Ben Phillips (Virginia Beach, Virginia), and Michelle Phillips (Salisbury, Maryland); and her nephew, Dr. Cam Campbell (Iowa City); nieces, Jacquelyn McGown (Sausilito, California) and Pamela Mills (San Jose, California); and many great-nieces and nephews.
Jackie was raised in Malibu, California. She joined the Women's Army Corp, where she met her husband "Phil", who was in the Army Calvary. They later raised their sons on a farm in Stockton, New Jersey. Jackie and Phil retired in Wachapreague, Virginia, where they were both active in the Coast Guard Auxiliary and Fire Company. She became a real estate broker. After her husband's death, Jackie moved to Accomac, Virginia, where she was known for changing the spiritual life of the shore through healing touch.
She was the founder of the Center for Healing Intervention, where she was a certified Healing Touch Practitioner and Reiki Master. She was also a talented artist, including creating beautiful fish decoys. Jackie studied in Virginia (Monroe Institute), California, Canada, and New Zealand. In 2002, Jackie moved to Iowa to be near her sister, Barbara. In Iowa City, she continued her ministry of Healing Touch and made many friendships at Trinity Episcopal Church and with her poetry group. Jackie loved her cats -- Sensei, Bonnie and Pounce, who were her companions at Ecumenical Towers.
Jackie will be truly missed by her family, wide circle of dear friends and healing colleagues.
A celebration of Jacquelyn (Jackie’s) life will be held Saturday, January 18th, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church -- 320 E. College Street in Iowa City, Iowa.
Memorial donations may be made in her honor to Trinity Healing Touch Ministries.
