OBITUARY: Mary Eleanor Zeithammel

Mary Eleanor Zeithammel, 94, died Monday, February 3rd at the Oaknoll Health Care Center.

Family will greet friends on Thursday, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service of Iowa City. Rev. Dr. Barie Tritle will say prayers at 11:00 a.m. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Oaknoll Foundation. Mary Eleanor was born April 7, 1919 in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Dr. Edward and Winifred Bane Zeithammel. She was a graduate of Franklin High School.

Mary Eleanor was employed with the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. During World War II she was transferred to Chesapeake and Potomac Bell Company in Virginia where she assisted in communications involving the movement of military personnel and supplies. At the conclusion of the war she was loaned to AT&T and continued various assignments with the Chesapeake and Potomac Companies.

Throughout her working career Mary Eleanor was known as “Monnie”. Following retirement she resided in Boynton Beach, Florida and then returned to Iowa City and made Oaknoll her home.

Survivors include numerous cousins.
