UPDATE: Arrests Made in Caliente Night Club Shooting

Police report they were on the scene at Caliente in Iowa City when shots were fired from a moving sports utility vehicle in the early morning Saturday. Police say arrests have been made in connection to the incident.

Update 1:35 p.m.:

Police have indicated that at least one of the three handguns that was recovered was reported stolen in Washington County. Officers are investigating how the stolen weapon incident is connected to the shooting.

Iowa City Police say they have arrested five men in connection with the Caliente Night Club shooting Saturday morning.

According to a media release, police officers who were in the area at the time of the shooting stopped a silver Lincoln Navigator with five occupants inside driving nearby. The description matched the vehicle involved in the shooting, according to the release, and along with the men, three guns were found inside the vehicle.

According to a criminal complaint, police pulled over the navigator at 1:48 a.m. at 171 Highway 6 W. During the traffic stop, a drug dog was brought to the vehicle and indicated to the officers that there were drugs in the vehicle, giving police probable cause to search the vehicle, according to the complaint. The following search allegedly revealed three handguns and two small bags of marijuana.

Police arrested the following men and filed charges according to the release:

  • Dominque Marcellus Clegg, 22, of Burlington was charged with Possession of a Firearm as a Felon (Class D Felony), Carrying a Concealed Weapon (Aggravated Misdemeanor), Keeping or Permitting use of Drugs in a Vehicle (Aggravated Misdemeanor), Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance (Serious Misdemeanor), Possession of Stolen Property (Serious Misdemeanor)
  • Elijah James Pickens, 20, of Burlington was charged with Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance (Serious Misdemeanor) and Possession of Alcohol under the Legal Age
  • Dewayne Lenoir Jr., 22, of Burlington was charged with Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance (Serious Misdemeanor) and Possession of Stolen Property (Serious Misdemeanor)
  • Giovani Denario Timmons, 21, of Burlington, IA was charged with Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance (Serious Misdemeanor)
  • Timothy Leture Chew, 21, of Burlington was charged with Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance (Serious Misdemeanor) and Possession of Stolen Property (Serious Misdemeanor)

Investigation is continuing into the incident.

Drive-by shooting reported in the early morning hours

The Iowa City Police department reports that there were several gunshots fired at the from a moving vehicle Saturday morning.

According to a police department press release, officers were on the scene in reference to a noise complaint at 1:14 a.m. this morning at Caliente Night Club. At this time, they heard shots fired nearby.

Witnesses reportedly told them that a black male leaning out of the window of a sports-utility vehicle was seen shooting at the night club. The vehicle left, and officers investigated the area, confirming that shots had been fired. No injuries were reported from the incident.
