Police: Intoxicated Driver Swerved into Other Lane, Caused Collision
The accident occurred on Sand Road as an Iowa City man allegedly crossed the dividing line into oncoming traffic.

An Iowa City man is facing a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated after his drunk driving allegedly led to an accident in May.
According to an Iowa City police criminal complaint, on May 19 at 9:58 p.m., Jeffrey Scott Van Meter, 24, of 2013 Kountry Lane, Iowa City was traveling south on Sand Road when he allegedly crossed the center line and struck another oncoming vehicle.
When officers arrived, Van Meter was standing outside of his vehicle, according to the complaint. He allegedly had blood-shot eyes, slurred speech and swayed as he stood. According to the complaint, Van Meter told officers that he had consumed two beers earlier in the evening and that he had been operating the vehicle that crashed into the other vehicle.

Van Meter consented to a breathalyzer test and blew a .187 according to police. He was then transported to the hospital where a blood test revealed a .205 blood-alcohol content.
First offense operating a vehicle while intoxicated is a serious misdemeanor.
