Police: Iowa City Man Violated No-Contact Order By Commenting on His Own Facebook Photos

The man told authorities that he thought he was not violating any rules because the woman was no longer tagged on the photos.

Another example of how social media has made things more complicated.

An Iowa City man was arrested this week and charged with violating a no-contact order after he allegedly posted comments on his own Facebook photos featuring him and woman he had been ordered not to contact.

According to a criminal complaint, Derek Paul Stoneking, 27, of Iowa City had been barred by a Johnson County judge on June 28 from contacting the woman by any means, including in person or through a third party.

Stoneking then admitted to commenting on old photos of him and the woman on July 3, telling police that he was "just commenting about the good times" and that he didn't realize the woman would see the comments because she was no longer "tagged" on them, according to the complaint.

The criminal complaint stated that the no-contact order was in relation to a felony willful injury charge filed in the beginning of June according to online court records. Stoneking has since pleaded not guilty to this charge, according to online court records.

The complaint listed Stoneking as being cooperative with the investigation, but noted that he "disagreed with the outcome."
