(UPDATE) Police Considering Multiple Charges After Iowa City Woman Allegedly Runs Over and Kills Friend with Truck After Argument

The Iowa City police have reported that an Iowa City woman killed her friend in an incident following a physical dispute. Charges are pending further investigation.

IOWA CITY, IA -- Police Lt. Bill Campbell said Monday morning that investigation into the death of an Iowa City woman last night is continuing, but he could not say whether there would be more charges filed today or not.

"I can tell you that all the charges out there are still being looked at," Campbell said.

Campbell said investigators are trying to establish the circumstances of death of an Iowa City woman, Pamela Gross, who was being dropped off at home Sunday night by a friend, Miranda Lalla, in a parking lot area near Gross' residence at 315 E. 1st St. This includes the role of the physical fight of that led up to incident, as well as Lalla's level of intoxication while driving.

"I think sorting out all of the elements of how the accident happened is the most important thing right now," Campbell said.

Campbell said he was uncertain if Gross died before officers arrived. He did say that it was his understanding that officers were unable to speak with Gross on the scene before her death, as she was either dead or unconscious at that time.

The Iowa City Press-Citizen is reporting that police have spoken with at least one witness to the incident.

Physical Dispute Results in Friend's Death

Iowa City police are still looking into a Sunday evening vehicle accident that resulted in the death of an Iowa City woman.

According to an Iowa City police media release, police responded at 7:18 p.m. last night to 315 E. 1st Street for the report of a motor vehicle accident with injuries.

There they Pamela Gross, 44, of Iowa City. Gross had been run over by a nearby truck driven by Miranda Lalla, 50, of Iowa City, according to the media release.

Gross died of her injuries, according to police.

Lalla told investigators that she and Gross had gotten into a physical altercation after Lalla had dropped Gross off after the pair had beers at another location, according to the criminal complaint. After the fight, as Lalla was getting ready to leave with the door open, she backed into Gross with her vehicle's open door, knocking her over and under the truck.

After the accident, police say Lalla showed measurable impairment when performing field sobriety tests. She later refused chemical testing, but officers obtained a search warrant for a blood test. Toxicology results are pending, according to the release. Lalla blew a .093 on a blood-alcohol breathalyzer test, according to the criminal complaint.

At this time, Lalla has only been charged with second-offense Operating While Intoxicated. More charges could come pending investigation.
