Police Officers Respond to Report of Suspicious Man Near Lucas Elementary

Police say they responded to the report of the suspicious man yesterday afternoon near the intersection of Dover Street and Muscatine Avenue.

An elementary aged boy reported being flagged down and approached by a male stranger Thursday near the intersection of Dover Street and Muscatine Avenue.

In a release, the Iowa City Police Department reports responding to the area at 2:20 p.m. From the report, the boy told police that the man, a light complexioned African American man in his fifties, had flagged him down first from his vehicle and then had gestured for the boy to come to him. When the boy did not come, the man reportedly got out of the vehicle and continued to call to him. The boy said at this he had run away.

According to police, when the boy ran the man did not pursue him. The motivation of the man is unknown.

The boy described the man as wearing a dark colored top and blue jeans. He was driving a white car with a red bumper.

The Iowa City School District has been made aware of the situation, and the Iowa City Police will be providing extra patrols in the area.
