President Trump Still Appealing to Racist Base; Has He Gone Too Far?

Trump declares war on black players in NFL and NBA; urges fans to walk out if players take a knee during national anthem. Will fans walk?

President Donald Trump has once again appealed to the racists in his base by attacking black players in the National Football League (NFL) for taking a knee during the singing of the national anthem, and this time some of his “bestest” friends have objected. Robert Kraft, owner of the New England Patriots, and Tom Brady, the NE Patriots’ star quarterback, have both objected to Trump’s racist objections to First Amendment expressions by black players in the league.

Robert Kraft gave $1 million to Trump’s inauguration fund. If that isn’t friendship of a sort, I don’t know what is. He doesn’t need Trump’s friendship. Tom Brady doesn’t need Trump’s friendship either. All those who endeavor to fawn over Trump and his family may feel that they need to buy Trump’s golf course memberships, but certainly Kraft and Brady don’t.

This time Trump has gone too far. He’s also attacked Steph Curry of the National Basketball Association. Steph Curry didn’t know what was going on until his friends posted supportive statements and his wife showed him Trump’s tweet attacking him. Correctly, Curry commented that it isn’t very presidential to personally attack a sports figure for no reason.

Racist? Oh, I think so.

Suddenly, NASCAR is Trump’s favored sport. Are NASCAR dads more likely to be racist than NFL and NBA fans? Probably.

Must things really get worse before they get better? A bunch of kids in New Hampshire lynched an eight-year-old black boy, who went to the hospital with neck injuries. Where would kids get such an idea?

I asked a black man at an Iowa City diner if things are worse or if Trump has emboldened racists to come out more. He said he’d spent time in an Alabama penitentiary. Who would know better if not he?

“No, racism has always been there. People just coming out with it more.”

I'm wondering if Colin Kaepernick isn't closer to getting his job back in the NFL than ever before. He was the first to take a knee in protect against racism in America.

If you don't think racism exists, ask yourself when was the last time a white police officer was convicted for shooting a black man in the back.
