Robert's Dairy to Close, Revamp Iowa City Plant
A letter from the Robert's Chief Operating Officer to the Mayor of Iowa City announced the closure, effective immediately, of the Iowa City plant eliminating the jobs for 47 employees in the plant and in the office.
Robert's Dairy in Iowa City will be closed as a dairy producer and reopened as a local distribution location for the company's dairy products, according to a letter sent by Robert's Chief Operating Officer Gary Aggus to the Mayor of Iowa City today.
The change, which will be put into immediate effect, will cause 47 employees to lose their jobs at the plant on 1109 N. Dodge Street. 30 employees will be retained to operate the facility in its new distribution capacity.
In the letter to the mayor's office, Aggus said the move was done to consolidate the Robert's Dairy operations due to lower product volume. Robert's will move the Iowa City plant's business to the other Robert's plants in Dubuque and Omaha.
