Sheriff's Office: Naked Iowa City Man Arrested, Claimed He was Forced to Handle a Nuclear Bomb

An Iowa City man was arrested in Solon early this morning. The man was allegedly naked, intoxicated, and had a strange explanation for what had happened that evening.

Johnson County Sheriff's deputies arrested an allegedly intoxicated and naked Iowa City man in Solon early this morning.

Deputies were dispatched to 400 Summit Drive in Solon for the report of a naked man at 3:31 a.m. this morning. There they found William Todd Bliss, 41, of Iowa City, naked and allegedly appearing intoxicated, with red, blood-shot eyes, and slurred speech.

According to the complaint, Bliss, in an excited state, told deputies that four men had forced him to handle a nuclear bomb at his Iowa City residence. He then allegedly took off running and had to be pursued and caught again by the deputies. A deputy was injured during the pursuit, according to the complaint.

Bliss allegedly admitted after his arrest to drinking at the Solon Station bar. He told police he had nine beers and some vodka during the course of the day, according to the complaint. Bliss also allegedly conceded to having a drinking problem.

Bliss was charged with public intoxication and interference with official acts, both misdemeanors.

The criminal complaint concluded that no nuclear bomb was found on the site where Bliss claimed.
