Supplements Showing Strong Scientific Evidence of Beneficial Outcomes

Believe it or not, scientists have verified the beneficial effects of certain healthful supplements with studies validating claims. Garlic for blood pressure, niacin (B3) for heart disease, probiotics for diarrhea related to antibiotic use, and zinc for colds are four of the supplements with the strongest evidence for true benefits.

Near the top rating of "strong" evidence for beneficial effects is "devil's claw" for arthritis and L-tyrosine for joints. All you have to do is click on each circle in the link or click on the legend (either "all" or something of particular interest) to find out what supplement is good for what ailment. To find the scientific study that validates the "worth-it" value of the supplement, click where it says to click inside the colored circle with the name of the supplement inside.

For my supplements, some of which are actual foods often added as flavoring (like garlic), I like to go to New Pioneer Coop. However, be careful not to do what my mother used to do. She loved supplements and refused to take her prescribed blood pressure medicine because she was fearful of possible side effects. However, the side effect of not taking her blood pressure medicine was death, unfortunately.
