(VIDEO) St. Mary's Catholic Church: Iowa City Place of Worship Profile

Iowa City Patch has embarked on a project to profile all of the places of worship in Iowa City. This week, we continue the series with St. Mary of the Visitation Catholic Church in Iowa City.

Religion is a vital part in many people's lives, but it often isn't discussed in the public square unless it is tied to controversy in the headlines. To help remedy this oversight, Iowa City Patch has set a goal to profile a local place of religious worship in Iowa City each Sunday.

This week, we spoke with Father John Spiegel about the history of St. Mary's Catholic Church and how religion binds personal faith journeys with the larger social fabric of society. This past week marked the beginning of the Lenten Season for Catholics.

The church's office can be found in .
