Who Ya Gonna Trust? James Comey or Trump's Attorney?

Comey testified under oath to the U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee. He said that Pres. Trump "lied." Trump's attorney denied everything.

Former FBI Director James Comey testified under oath to the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence. He apologized to his FBI family for Pres. Trump's "lies" about the FBI. He said he created a record of his interactions with Trump because he was afraid that Trump "might lie" about what happened.

After Comey went into closed session with the Trump to discuss classified information involving the investigation into whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russia, Trump's attorney, Marc Kasowitz, made a public statement denying everything that Comey said about Trump. He said that Trump didn't ask Comey for a loyalty oath, that nothing Comey said is true. To Trump's attorney, the big story coming out of the public hearing was that Comey was "the leaker" and therefore an enemy of the state, an enemy of the administration, and should be the target of an investigation.

Nice try, but no cigar. James Comey wasn't "strong enough," as he said in response to either Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) or Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME), to confront Pres. Trump directly on how inappropriate his demands of Comey were regarding Trump's request for Comey's loyalty to the president despite the intended separation of their roles.

However, Comey testified under oath. I don't believe he perjured himself. He may have been guilty of trying to save his job by not confronting the president directly on Trump's lack of ethics. He explained to Senators Susan Collins (R-ME) and Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) that he was "stunned" and "too shocked" to think of anything beyond what he should say to calm the president without actually agreeing to a loyalty oath. He agreed to be "honestly loyal" in order to end the conversation and edge out of the Oval Office.

Who do I believe? I believe Comey. The president is known for being a habitual liar. Comey has a much better record when it comes to telling the truth. I believe Comey has made mistakes. I dislike his take on the significance of Hillary's emails. I think it was inappropriate for him to make a public announcement about Hillary's emails 11 days before the presidential election. Looking at what Trump's campaign managers were apparently up to with Russia at the time, Hillary's emails were insignificant in comparison. Comey admitted that he was working on an assumption of the truthfulness of what turned out to be a fake Russian document.
