Woman Accused of Hitting Daughter, Threatening Husband with Hammer: Iowa City Police Blotter, Feb. 13

An Iowa City woman was arrested Sunday night after allegedly hitting her daughter and threatening her husband with a hammer.

Police say they responded to the home of Angela Marie Gilson, 35, of 3600 BLOCK Donegal Ct., Iowa City at 8:11 p.m. for the report of an intoxicated woman with a hammer, with further information that she was involved in a domestic dispute.

When they arrived at the residence they pieced together the story of the incident. Gilson has allegedly been involved in an arguement with her husband, when she knocked a video phone out of his hand. Arming herself with a hammer, she barricaded herself inside the house her two children, who are 20 months and six years of age. The husband told police that he felt threatened by Gilson at the time he entered the home, according to the complaint. After this, the husband reportedly took the two children to a friend's house.

The husband told police that his six-year-old daughter told him that Gilson had hit her three times, and when an officer spoke to the child she said that Gilson had hit her three times in the stomach. According to the husband, Gilson told him she had hit their daughter because their daughter hit her first. The 20-month old also had a scratch accross her chest, according to the criminal complaint. Police said Gilson appeared intoxicated and was uncooperative with the investigation. She was charged with child endangerment with no injury and domestic assault with display of a weapon.
