Woman Arrested for Allegedly Having Marijuana in Reach of Children: Iowa City Police Blotter, Feb. 27

An Iowa City woman was charged with endangering two children after police allegedly found marijuana in her home during an unrelated search.

Police say they arrived at the apartment of Shianna Denise Chambers, 21, of 1100 Arthur St., Iowa City at 8:02 p.m. on Feb. 26 in regards to a coworker's cell phone that allegedly had not been returned by Chambers the previous day. When officers arrived at the apartment and were let in by a man, they said they could smell freshly smoked marijuana, and saw two small children in the residence as well, according to the criminal complaint. The man told police he was alone in the residence with the children. Moments later, Chambers allegedly came to the door at the same time as two men ran to a back bedroom and locked the door. Police say a number of marijuana blunts were found within reach of the small children.

Chambers was charged with child endangerment and allowing drug possession in a residence, both aggravated misdemeanors.
