Altoona Resident Receives National Arthritis Award

Arthritis Foundation volunteer Kate Kuhns received the Arthritis Foundation Angel Award for Parent Leadership at this year’s Juvenile Arthritis Conference which took place in Anaheim, California in July.  The annual award is presented to the parent or parents who have shown exceptional courage and strength within their personal family of living with rheumatic disease, have established effective working relationships with local related organizations and professionals, and generously shared their time and talents by serving in parent leadership roles within the Arthritis Foundation and the medical community.

Kate’s daughter, Delaney, was diagnosed with pauciarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) in 2009 at the age of six. Since the diagnosis, Kate has been 100% committed to researching the ins and outs of raising a child with arthritis, advocating for arthritis awareness and becoming involved with the Arthritis Foundation. It's not unusual to see Kate and Delaney at Arthritis Foundation events - and not just in Iowa. Kate has taken on leadership roles locally, regionally and nationally with the Arthritis Foundation in the areas of advocacy, special events and juvenile arthritis.
