Boswell Announces $833,461 for Third District Colleges

Congressman Leonard Boswell (IA-3) today announced grants totaling $833,461 have been awarded to colleges in Iowa’s Third Congressional District from the U.S. Department of Education.

“I am pleased Central College and DMACC have received these funds for their important TRIO programs, which help disabled and low-income students gain access to higher education,” Boswell said.

The competitive awards issued included $583,461 for Central College in Pella and $250,000 for Des Moines Area Community College Urban Campus in Des Moines.

The grant was issued through Upward Bound, one of eight federal TRIO programs. The Federal TRIO Programs (TRIO) are outreach and student services programs designed to identify and provide services for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds.
