"Families are looking for a safe, fun, family-friendly environment," said Craig Ferguson, pastor of Johnston River of Life Church and organizer of the event. "It's a place where families will be able to meet other families. Come enjoy a safe environment, play games and contest."

Ferguson said the event falls in line with Johnston River of Life's goal in the community.

"We're always looking for ways to be involved in Johnston,"  Ferguson said. "Our mission is being Christ in the community, so everything we do we try to embody that."

Last year's event was such a success organizers have expanded.

While the entire event was inside Simpson Barn last fall, Ferguson said, this year there will bounce houses outside, a trunk-or-treat in the parking lot and many games inside the barn.

"We've expanded it in a way that is presenting a community atmosphere by brining in other business to participate in the trunk-or-treat," he said.

The businesses in the trunk-or-treat will even compete in a decorating contest to be determined by Mayor Paula Dierenfeld.

JROL has even invited a photographer to take pictures of costumes for a children's costume contest to be determined by the mayor after the event.
"Many people are really excited," Ferguson said of the event. "The location is right in the center of the community so it's easy to access in the community."

The event, while held during traditional Beggars' Night hours of 6 to 8 p.m., still allows families to trick-or-treat in their neighborhoods.

"Some are already saying they are planning to do both," he said. "Families can just come and have a good time."
