Get Rid of Paint the Safe, Smart Way

How do you get rid of unwanted paint?

You Have Options
When getting rid of paint, you have options. But first you need to determine if your paint is "hazardous." Oil-based paint is hazardous, while latex paint is not.

Oil-Based Paint
This type of paint is accepted for free (up to 75 lbs.) at the:

Latex Paint
Because latex is NOT hazardous, the disposal options are different:

  1. Solidify it and throw in your garbage can. You can do this by mixing in kitty litter, sand or shredded paper and leaving the lid off. See how simple it is on YouTube.
  2. See if Habitat ReStore needs your particular color and donate it. They typically want neutral colors.
  3. Bring it to Metro Waste Authority’s year-round drop-off for $1/gallon.

NOTE: Latex paint is not accepted at drop-off events.
