March 30: First of Four Hazardous Waste Drop-Offs

Get Rid of Items that Don't Belong in the Garbage
Metro Waste Authority and western suburbs partner every year to help residents get rid of unused hazardous products in a safe, smart way. This year, Urbandale hosts the first of four Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off events.
Each event is from 8 a.m. to Noon at these community locations:
- March 30 – Urbandale Middle School, 7701 Aurora Ave.
- May 11 – Waukee Middle School, 905 Warrior Lane
- June 29 – West Des Moines Valley Stadium, 4440 Mills Civic Pkwy.
- Oct. 26 – Windsor Heights Colby Park, 6900 School St.
What to Bring & NOT Bring
Look under your sink and in your garage for items with labels reading: Flammable, Keep Away from Children, Toxic, and Corrosive. These are the types of items accepted for free.

Year-Round Drop-Off
The Metro Hazardous Waste Drop-Off is open year-round to the public and accepts up to 75 lbs. of hazardous waste from residents per visit for free (with some exclusions). A $1/lb. fee is assessed above 75 lbs.
