With Tax Season Comes File Shredding

With Tax Season Comes File Shredding

Avoid identity theft and recycle with shredding options

Tax season requires going through your saved bills, receipts, bank statements and prior tax filings. Some you toss, some you recycle – but either way, you should always SHRED. Avoid the risk of identity theft with these tips:

Shred Only Necessary Documents
Limit shredding to documents and mail that contain personal information. If it’s your address on junk mail or envelopes, simply black it out with a marker.

Contain it for Curb It!
When your throw shredded paper in your recycling cart, it must be contained in a paper sack, cereal box or pop can box – never a plastic bag. If shredded paper isn’t contained or is in a plastic bag it ends up in the landfill. The sorting process can’t capture the small pieces and plastic bags – empty or full – are pulled from the materials first thing to prevent equipment damage.

Also, be sure to fold down the paper sack or close the cereal box. You can even tape or staple it shut. Now it’s ready to be tossed in your recycling cart. Learn more about Curb It! guidelines or watch how it’s sorted at Greenstar Recycling.
