Business of the Week: First Step Chiropractic and Acupuncture Uses Treatments to Help in Quick Recovery

Kyle Ellensohn moved his practice to Johnston last year.

For Kyle Ellensohn, the desire to become a chiropractor began on the football field in high school.

"No injury," the owner of First Step Chirpractic and Acupuncture said. "One day I just couldn’t run or jog, my back and leg hurt. I was limping around practice."

His parents took him to a chiropractor, and a bulged disc was found in his lower back.

"Once starting treatment, I was back to practicing with the team after three weeks and full contact after five weeks."

Today, Ellensohn puts that same thorough treatment to practice at First Step Chiropractic & Acupuncture, 6110 N.W. 86th St.

Like many chiropractors, Ellensohn uses a variety of technique to help his patients, but one he uses that many don't employ is acupuncture.

"Incorporated in our daily visits is our traction bed and electric acupuncture," Ellensohn said, of the practice that is covered by many insurance plans. "I use a light and gentle prone specific adjustment which has been proven to be highly effective on people of all ages, zero to 86 years old," he said.

Ellensohn prides his practice on making the patient number one.

"We provide minimum wait, helping our patients get in and out of our office to continue with daily activities," he said.

One way the practice helps patients move on is the use of electrical acupuncture, which helps cut down on the healing process, he said.

Ellensohn uses x-rays of patients to help better manage health, as well.

The decision to move his practice to Johnston a year ago has been a success.

"I love my small-town feel with big city next door," he said. "The choice was pretty simple once we drove through Johnston. The people are amazing!"

Ellensohn, who grew up in LeMars, attended college in Nebraska, then received his doctorate in chiropractic from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport.

The reason Ellensohn continues to enjoy his work is simply helping.

"The patient’s success stories, no matter how big or how small," he said. "Bringing hope to patients that don’t have any left."

Ellensohn also hopes to help kids grow and develop with healthy habits.

"I am here in Johnston to make this community and the people around me healthy and happy," he said.
