Business of the Week: KP Massage Offers New Techniques in Pain Relief

When Karla Prosperi and her family moved relocated from Chicago two and a half years ago, she knew Johnston would provide the perfect backdrop for her massage business.

"Johnston is an active community that draws in people from the entire Des Moines area because of the great resources that are centralized here," she said.

KP Massage, located at 6165 N.W. 86th St., specializes in clinical and orthopedic massage, chronic pain, injury recovery, headaches/migraines, neuromuscular and visceral work, Prosperi said.

"Being in a position to help others feel well is incredibly rewarding," Prosperi said of her business, which has been open for two years. "Every day I get to help people rebalance muscular and visceral glitches that may have been causing problems for them for years."

Having a background and training in clinical, medical and orthopedic massage means Prosperi can employ a more anatomical approach to massage - a relatively new science.

"Because it involves more detail of anatomy and understanding of soft tissue connections, those of us who practice this branch of massage are able to offer very focused sessions that help alleviate pain more efficiently," she said.

Prosperi is always up for discussing the topic and educating potential clients on the benefits.

"Every day is a blast for me," she said. "I get to work with wonderful people and decide how to unwind the exact soft tissue that makes up the human puzzle. It’s amazing to see people receive relief- a fun, fulfilling experience every day."

Prosperi encourages those that live in pain to seek help.

"Why live in pain when there are wonderful specialists who are there to help," she asked.
